Early morning today as I got up at 5 am to watch us go through the Lemaire channel, which is a narrow passage way. Again quite stunning. Lots of penguins and seals. As we got through the sea ice got thicker. There were also two other ships in the area. One was a sister ship so we pulled upside her so they could take a drone picture of the two boats together. Due to all the sea ice our zodiac tour was cancelled and we had to turnaround and go back. So that was as far south as we would get. While we didn’t have much time for an afternoon excursion, they split us in two groups. The first group went to the landing at Jougla point at 3:30 pm and we went out at 5:00 pm. They were going to have us go on a zodiac tour for 45 minutes first, but the water was too rough. We basically walked in a circle twice on a snow packed island with many gentoo penguins. We were able to get very close to them. There was also a couple blue-eyed cormorants with babies amongst the penguins.
Today our briefing for tomorrow was after dinner. We are heading back north and are going to try for two stops. We also have our Covid test tomorrow. The staff had theirs today and everyone passed which is great!
