First day in Lisbon! It was a short one as I didn’t get to the hotel (Hotel Convento do Salvador) until 4 pm. So far I really like the hotel. It is in the old part of town, Alfama. The staff is very friendly and there is a tram stop right around the corner. After getting settled in my room, I went out to venture around.

Walked to where my tour starts tomorrow so I know where I am going and am not late. after the walk there, I decided there is no way I am walking it tomorrow morning. It is very hilly here and the roads and sidewalks are cobblestone! Although the walk was nice and I did enjoy seeing all the tile houses and a flee market on the Jardins da Avenida da Liberdade. I found the metro station and got my Navegante Occasional pass. So I am all set to take a tram or a bus. I can also take a funicular as well, but I haven’t seen one of those yet. Then I walked over to Castelo de Sao Jorge, which is close to my hotel.

The castle dates back to the 8th century BC. The views are spectacular as you walk around the outside edge of the castle. There is also a museum that show some tile and clay pieces that were excavated. Some date as far back as 300 – 400 BC. There is also an excavation site they are working on as well.

As I was taking pictures I noticed my phone was pretty low on battery and while I could have walked around town some more I needed my phone since it was my map back to the hotel. So, I headed back.
