Today is a full day at sea. It was very sunny out and the waves were not to bad. Actually rocking me to sleep. In the morning we had two lectures. The first was on the life of a marine mammal observer. I learned about all the sea noise that occurs and how it affects the sea mammals. While long it was quite interesting. We then heard about Ernest Shackleton’s journey in Antarctica in the early 1900’s. I had read part of the book, but had to stop when they had to eat their dogs. So it was good to hear how the story ended and a bit more interesting now that I know the area.
Another round of Covid tests today. Like before, sitting in your room is very nerve racking. But as with previous tests I was fine. Afterwards, I went to the presentation on the social life of Cetaceans, which are basically whales and dolphins. They are very social animals and have bigger brains than monkeys or apes. They can even recognize themselves in mirrors. I have been enjoying the lectures. They are very informative.
Tonight was the gala dinner. They served champagne, but we couldn’t do a toast with everyone because of Covid. Dinner even had lobster on the menu. After dinner we sat in the bar area. There were surprisingly few people. Guess everyone is tired after trip.
They told us today that we are going to make great time and be in Ushuaia by tomorrow afternoon. The Drake passage is so calm.
