When I got up, we were supposedly in Antarctica water and now passed the Drake. Because it was foggy, I couldn’t see much and the waters seem a little rougher. After breakfast we had another briefing this time on rules governed by the IAATO. One of the rules requires us to vacuum any outer layer clothes, backpacks, etc. so we do not bring in any seeds or other foreign objects. We then played a bit of bingo which was fun. Especially because I won. Got a patch that says Antarctica on it. I spent some time in the library today. It was still pretty quiet. I then came back to my room and saw the penguins swimming by the boat. That was fun.
Later in the afternoon we did our first landing. When we got there, the island was full of chinstrap an gentoo penguins. There were also a few elephant seals hanging out on shore. Fun to watch the penguins wiggle around. Many of them had chicks. Then it was back to the boat. Where our boots got power washed and disinfected. At 7 pm, I headed up to where the hot rock dinner was. Had tuna which was really good. Towards the end of dinner, there was humpback whale spotting. We decided to finish our meal first and then go check it out. There were a number of whales out there and I am sure a number of people got some great pictures. I took a few and then just watched them. It was pretty spectacular. It was after 10 pm when I got back to the room. It will stay light most of the time now. I think the sunsets for only 4 hours. Early day tomorrow starting at 8 am.
