Iceberg

This morning we were scheduled for a zodiac tour for an hour, but it was cancelled as the winds picked up. Some people saw the exhibition team go out and I guess the zodiacs were bouncing up pretty high.

I chose to spend my morning on the observation deck taking pictures and reading my book. Larry and Barbara brought up some 9 piece puzzles. The first one I got right away, but not the second one. Never figured that one out. We are seeing more icebergs which is pretty neat. Even without the sun they look blue.

After lunch I headed back up to the observation deck. As we were sitting there we were seeing more and more icebergs and didn’t see a clear path. We wondered how we would got through. Shortly after the thought, an announcement was made to head up to the 8th floor to watch as the captain maneuvered through them. It was quite amazing! We saw penguins and seals laying on the icebergs. At one point we were watching some penguins on an iceberg and the next the we know 3 penguins jumped straight up out of the water on to the iceberg. It was so cool! A few times the boat ran into an iceberg to break it up or move it out of the way. One was quite large.

Our afternoon excursion was also cancelled. There were some options for lectures. I went to the one on taking pictures which had some good tips. After the afternoon briefing there was a solo traveler reception on the 8th floor. There wasn’t much opportunity to mingle as the boat was rocking back and forth due to the waves. As rough as when we went through the Drake passage. There weren’t many people at dinner either. I wonder if a number of folks were not feeling well. I had taken my patch off yesterday and didn’t have any issues with the waves today. Not sure if their is still some medicine in my system or I am just not prone to seasickness. Took a Dramamine just in case.

The entire ship had Covid tests today. At the afternoon briefing, they confirmed 2 people tested positive and are quarantined along with those they were in close contact with. I sure hope that doesn’t mean they won’t let us off the ship when we get back. Maybe that is why they did it so soon so they can make sure no one else gets it, but there is no way to know if I was in contact with any of these people. I am going to keep being diligent. I really need to get home and we only have 8 days until we dock. Guess I need to let it go as I can’t control it. After the briefing there was a reception for the solo travelers. We basically sat by the people we knew so we didn’t get to meet others. The waves have picked up so it would have been too hard to stand and mingle. It feels similar to the Drake passage. I wasn’t having any issues even though I took my patch off yesterday and hasn’t taken anything. Wonder if there is still a little residual medicine in my system. Did decide to take one Dramamine tonight just in case.
