We spent 3 days and 2 nights right outside the entrance to Machu Picchu. After our train ride, we walked through the town of Aguas Calientes to board a bus that traveled 20 minutes up 12 switchbacks to arrive at the entrance to the park. Our Hotel was immediately outside the entrance to the park, the only hotel at this location. Other visitors must either hike or bus up the mountainside each day to visit the park. Our first day was spent viewing the park from higher points among the ruins. Our second day included longer hikes up both Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu mountain peaks. On the third day we explored the houses and viewed the park from lower locations among the ruins. Every spot, every turn, every corner offers a different perspective.
