Guggenheim

Our trip to Bilbao was all about the Guggenheim.  The building itself is a work of art.  The architecture portrays this feeling of randomness with curves and facades that seem to conflict with one another but yet somehow come together.  After the visit we felt gipped as the third floor containing some temporary exhibits was closed.  There was reportedly a Kandisky exhibit, another of Troy’s favorites, but another exhibition was apparently being installed and the entire third floor was closed.

In hindsight we experienced some great works of art, some alarming and some thought provoking.  The media exhibit of Jenny Holzer, Truisms, originated in New York, and apparently has become a series of installations, the Bilbao being somewhat influenced from the AIDS epidemic.  Anish Kapoor, an Indian artist, had both compelling work and work that appeared to stretch the concept of what the artist creates -vs- what is naturally art.
