We left the hotel at 9:20 am to make our way to a winery we will be staying at for three days. Along the way, we visited a town called Amarante. Pedro gave us an overview of the town including information on a priest, Goncalo. It is said he was a matchmaker and if you rub the feet of his tomb, you will get married again. One foot is so worn down from all the touching, it is almost gone.

We then went to a winery, Quinta do Infantado and tasted 5 different wines and 3 ports, plus we were fed many snacks along the way. The wine is ok, but with the food, it comes alive! The ports were also very good as they had less sugar than most. So they were not as sweet.

We then headed to our hotel which is also a winery, Quinta Sal Luiz. The property is just beautiful and my room is amazing! It has a patio that looks over the Douro. There is also an infinity pool. It is in the 90’s and we had some time before dinner, so I did try out the pool. It was very refreshing!

Dinner was right outside my room as I am at the end of the hall, which made the commute to dinner very easy. They started with a port tonic, which is dry white port, tonic, a lemon and some mint. Very good and very dangerous as you couldn’t taste the port. First course was a vegetable soup, then chicken, ending with a lemon tart. Each course was paired with a different wine. We are vey spoiled here! As there are only 11 rooms, our group has the entire use of the property.
