Costa Rica 2000

Home base was at a resort on the Papagayo peninsula right on the Gulf of Papagayo in Guanacaste, Costa Rica.  The resort was right on the beach so every other day we set out from there to three very different areas that included a dry forest, transitional and tropical rain forest.   At the time of our visit, many resorts were just getting started.  Blue Bay Village Papagayo was one of three resorts in our area but we imagine it has become quite touristy since that time.

La Cruz. A town near the border of Costa Rica and Nicaragua on the Nicoya coast.
Los Incentes – Horseback riding through a dry rain forest. Spider and Howler monkeys – toucans and other birds. Great riding!
Spider Monkey. While horseback riding, a Spider monkey climbed above head while a baby clung to her side.
Rincon de la vieja. An Enormous park (Private Reserve) with waterfalls, mud pits, a volcano, Iguanas and other wildlife.
Rincon de la vieja. Hiking in the park.
Laguana de Arenal. Lake Arenal is massive. A visit on the way to the Volcano. Wind speeds make popular for wind surfing.
Tabacon Gardens. Tabacon Springs is a popular destination to hang out while waiting for the Arenal Volcano show.
Tabacon Springs. There were at least three areas of temperature ranges inside of the Springs.
Road to Arenal. Me having a bit of ice cream before we headed to Volcano Arenal.
