Today we took an hour flight to the town of Cuzco. We joked that we went up and then landed, because the town is at 12,500 feet. We needed to drink a lot of water and something called coca tea from real coca leaves to help with the altitude sickness.
We had a full day of travel taking in a cathedral where we saw how the Spaniards worked hard to instill their religion on the Inca’s. One method of adoption was shown in a picture of the last supper where the main meal was guinea pig (a delicacy in Peru) and papaya on the table. The virgin Mary was also shown pregnant to bring reality to the birth of christ. We had a Peruvian lunch, which was outstanding and then headed over to Sacsayhuaman (Pronounced sexy woman (really!)) which was the parade grounds for the Inca. We also went to a couple local markets one was a food market and the other had hand made tapistries. Then it was down to the Urubamba valley (8,500 ft) to our hotel. We are now heading out to a cooking class.
