Salamanca

Before heading into the home stretch of our trip, we parked in Salamanca for a few days.  A beautiful city, particularly at night, with amazing tapas bars and restaurants.  More of our favorites, including some pretty awesome suckling pig.  We stayed at Hotel Rector – highly recommended.  These folks are all about service and the efforts they gave to coordinate wine tours for us was absolutely above and beyond.

From this home base we could easily reach the new D.O. in Castilla y Leon (DO Salamanca) as well as Toro and Riberia del Duero.   We had a super experience at Cambrico and Quinta de la Quietud (Toro).  We cancelled the Riberia del Duero visit as this trip, more than anything, has revealed to us that the larger, touristy wine experiences are no longer of interest to us.  Both Alberto at Cambrico and Jean Francois at Quietud absolutely delivered on the intimate, unique, and boutique experience we crave in wine trade.
