July 4, 2005 – February 21, 2020
Porter was born on the fourth of July, 2005. He was to replace the gap that Murray would leave. To our good fortune, the doctor was wrong, and Murray went on into Summer of 2006.
Porter’s formal name is Windy Knoll Haystack Black – his call name is Porter. Now for some irony. For those who knew Troy, he was a home brewer. What many may not know is that Haystack Black the name of a Porter-style ale from Portland Brewing Company, was one of his favorite dark ales. Being born on the 4th of July, we contemplated picking a patriotic name, however, we couldn’t find a name we liked more than Porter. We knew Porter was sired by Walter and the female was Hannah, but once we brought Porter home and learned the details of the lineage we knew the name was meant to be.
Walter’s formal name (Porter’s father for those who aren’t keeping up) is Hoffmann’s homebrew. Walter’s father (Porter’s grandfather for those who aren’t keeping up) was sired by CH Glacieridge Charlie’s Red Ale. Like I said, it was meant to be!
Porter has received several AKC titles including his CD, CDX, rally titles and is a canine good citizen. Although, if you met him you wouldn’t know it. In his younger days, he ate his fare share of leather items (sorry Charlotte!) and if you left butter within his reach, he was sure to eat it. If you ever stayed at the house, you also knew to hide your t-shirts and underwear, because if you didn’t he was sure to steal it and you would find it laying around the house somewhere. Even at his last Christmas, he stole mom’s hat from the pocket in her walker. This is probably why I called him my devil dog. Even joking that AKC agreed as he was registered with them on June 6, 2006.
As he got older he could no longer live up to the devil dog reputation and in his last year, making snow angels became his favorite thing. He even reserved some energy in his last few days to chase Cinsault around the house something he liked to do with Maxx when they were younger.
