We left for our tour around 10 am today and headed to Ponte de Barca which is a small city with little to no tourism. Supposedly this is the city Magellan was born in. They have a pastry that looks like a boat that comes from the town. It tasted a little like pecan pie.

From Barca we went to Vasco Croft’s Aphros winery. He is one of the pioneers of biodynamic wine making in Portugal and was very passionate about his craft. We tasted 4 wines out of the stainless steel vats and then walked around the property some more as he talked about his process.

Biodynamic farming is very interesting. After the tour, Vasco’s chef served us lunch paired with different wines. The food was really good. The first dish was a risotto with cod and asparagus served with 2 different white wines. We then had pork cheeks with mashed potatoes with 2 red wines and then a very delicious dessert with a pet nat. 

After lunch we went back to Ponte de Lima and had time to wonder the city. We shopped and watched some of the canoe races. Then at 6:45 pm, Pedro took us for a walk around town and gave us some background on the city. At 8 pm when the tour was done, some folks went to dinner. I w
