Saturday, May 31

Our day started at 10 am when we headed to a winery, Secret Spot wines. We took a tour and then tasted 2 whites a rose, two reds and two muscadel’s, a 10 year and a 40 year. The wine was good, but really made to have with food. I did buy the 10 year muscadel as it is something you won’t get anywhere and I liked the apricot taste. The 40 year was much smoother, but less fruit.

We then went back to the hotel and rested for 40 minutes before going for a tour of the facilities and a late lunch. While we are the only ones at the hotel there are others at the winery taking tours. It was pretty hot so not everyone in the group was on the tour. Everyone did join for our late lunch. Because of the heat, we ate in the wine cellar vs outside. There was a wide range of different charcuterie and two wines. We also had a white and tawny port from the tour. I was the only one that listened when tour guide said to save the port for desert. I am glad I did. The chocolate bread for dessert wasn’t sweet and really went well with the tawny as did the oranges. The fruit dessert went well with the white port as did the pineapples.

Table in the back is where we ate

The rest of the day / evening we had to ourselves. It is such a beautiful property so I was happy to sit on my patio and read all evening. It also cools off nicely in the evening.
