Well it is definitely not as warm today. It has been snowing all day. They said it was 6 degrees, but it doesn’t feel that cold (or warm if it was 6 Celsius). Think it is likely 26 degrees.
Before breakfast I was looking out the window and there was a whale. He was laying on his side putting up his fin like he was waving. Then dove so you could see his fluke. Decided to just take it in vs running for my camera.
Our first adventure today was a zodiac tour around Foyt Harbor. There was a shipwreck of a whaling ship from 1915. Other than that we mostly rode around looking at the different icebergs. It was a little wavy on the way back so our waterproof clothes were tested. I can say everything but my butt stayed dry. Hung up my pants when I got back and they were dry before we went out again in the afternoon.
Before lunch we got assigned seats for all meals going forward, because they don’t know how Covid is being spread on the boat. I am thankful for all the precautions they are taking.
This afternoon we headed off to our first continental landing at Portal Point. Although I don’t know if we were truly on the content. We had to trudge through some wet snow. Up a hill, down the hill, then up a bigger hill. I was behind some slow people on my way up the first hill, so I passed them at the top and could then make my way at my own pace. The views were spectacular! Everything was foggy and left a certain eeriness to the views. After taking some pictures at the top of the hill, we sat on our butts and slid down the hill. It was a lot of fun! On our way back, we saw a leopard seal just laying on a piece of ice hanging out. Took some videos. It was then time to go back to the boat. At the briefing today, they said 3 people tested positive and 9 people are quarantined due to contact. The staff is being tested again tomorrow and we will be tested on Friday. They are still a little vague on if we will be let off the boat on the 18th. Let’s cross our fingers that there are no new cases as all 4 people who tested positive were a-symptomatic. So there is just no telling. I am wearing my mask more than I have been. As soon as I am done eating it is back on. Unfortunately, not everyone is as diligent.
