Day at sea.

I woke up at 1 am and realized that it was dark out. Thought of going out to look at stars, but didn’t want to futz with the curtains. Particularly because in BA I had a bit of a tumble when messing with the curtains in my room. So instead I went back to sleep. At 6 am, I woke up to a noise and rocking on the boat. I figured out that the noise was my safe door hitting the closet as the boat rocked back and forth. After breakfast, I wondered the ship. Went outside by the pool and while the Drake passage was quiet calm, I did have to hold on so I didn’t fall down. When I got back in, the spa person was telling me that someone on the last trip did fall down and she couldn’t walk much so it ruined most of her trip. Guess I will stay in the next couple days as we go through the Drake.

After my walk, I sat in the library for a bit (the library has the best Wi-Fi so I am able to update this blog). At 10:15 am we gathered to go through our first briefing. The waves were picking up during the briefing. For me, the patch is working as I felt like I was being rocked to sleep. It does make me very thirsty though. Not sure if I mentioned it, but our group is down to 101 and I think that number includes the person who tested positive at yesterday’s check. So I would guess we are now down to 100 people. After the briefing, I headed back to the library for a bit. I was the only one in there.

Any time we are outside of our rooms we have to wear a mask. Even when we go on shore. I am starting to get very used to wearing a mask every where I go, so it doesn’t bother me. Rather be safe than sorry.

After lunch we gathered for our mandatory zodiac review. I then joined some folks for a class on tying knots. I didn’t do very well. So I definitely will not be able to help if we need any rope tying. 😊

We then headed down for a wild life demo. Afterwards, was the captain’s cocktail reception. After introducing all the staff, they told us we have been making very good time and will arrive in Antarctica waters at 3:10 am. For this reason, we are going to get to do our first excursion tomorrow afternoon. How exciting!

Dinner was served ala cart today vs buffet style. I got a salad and some fish. After dinner we were talking a little and the next thing I knew, all the wait staff came over and sang happy birthday! That was super awesome!

Some people saw some whales today, unfortunately I didn’t. Hopefully tomorrow. I did see a couple Albatross birds.
